Around 230 members voted for a new synagogue council at the annual meeting of the Southend and Westcliff Hebrew Congregation. In his address, shul president Alan Gershlick spoke of the year’s many successful functions. He also said that he was continuing to speak to Jewish Care about a joint venture with the charity for a community centre and new shul building. This would only be done with the approval of the shul membership, he said.
