Michael Sobell Sinai School
The retired drapery salesman has volunteered at the Kenton primary school for nearly three years
Why Michael Sobell Sinai?
On retirement, I wanted to be involved in communal work.
What does your volunteering involve?
I run the school's Year 6 football team, which plays in the Brent league as well as Jewish inter-school competitions. For two mornings each week during term time, I assist teachers by helping the five- to six-year-olds on a one-to-one basis with work on computers. There are many educational programmes that teach how to tell the time, and about money and basic science. I help pupils to use the programs to form sentences using the correct spelling and punctuation.
What do you most enjoy about being a volunteer?
Helping children progress in their education and sport.
What is your most memorable volunteering moment?
To see the enthusiasm and joy on the children's faces when we print out their work and they take it to show their teachers.
