Roast beef: I love it with Yorkshire pudding and all the trimmings.
Chicken: I like it either roast or breadcrumbed in a Milanese either with pasta or salad.
Pasta: I like a nice creamy sauce or a spaghetti bolognese.
Soup: These are great for dieters because they are low in fat and filling. I would go for chicken soup, a vichyssoise or a vegetable soup.
Steak: I have it with a salad — lettuce, cucumber, celery and sometimes a hard-boiled egg as well.
Dietician Joan Wides says:
"If Lisa is watching her weight, it is important to keep to moderate portion sizes of lean beef and chicken, cooked with the minimum of added fat.
Since these animal foods are rich in protein and B vitamins, but contain no fibre, she is wise to accompany them with vegetables and/or salad and a starchy carbohydrate food such as pasta or potatoes. Using steak and other meats as part of a salad, so that smaller amounts are used, is a tasty and underrated way of cutting down their saturated fat content. Breaded chicken Milanese is healthier baked in the oven rather than fried.
Minced meat for bolognaise can be dry-fried at the outset without the addition of extra oil to further reduce fat intake. For weight control, Lisa needs to avoid cream in soups, such as vichyssoise, and pasta sauces. Soups make an excellent starter, main meal or snack — thick, chunky vegetable soups are highly filling and provide the most fibre."
