Jersey doesn't do things by halves. It has the richest cream, the tastiest potatoes, the cutest cows and claims to be the sunniest place in the British Isles.
And the Atlantic Hotel doesn't do things by half either. Lord Sugar would agree: the hotel was recently featured as a "treat" for the winning team on last year's Apprentice.
The luxury hotel, which is family owned, has dramatically beautiful views on the island, looking out onto the tawny yellow sands of St Ouen's Bay, a conservation area.
While other hotels chase after the suited-and-booted market of visiting bankers and businessmen, the Atlantic is quietly serene, a place for tea on the terrace, rather than late night phone conferences. Only ten minutes from the airport, which is an hour from London City Airport, it's ideal as a surprise mini-break.
Set across six acres of cliff top, the modern building curves around a stunning outdoor pool and terrace, more Cote d'Azur than Channel Island.
Afternoon tea can be taken on the terrace, with Jersey cream scones, fluffy chocolate éclairs and home- baked banana bread. The colour palette in the lobby and lounge, continues in fresh blues and whites of St Ouen's Bay, with modern exposed brick and cool lighting.
Even More beautiful is the Michelin-starred Ocean restaurant, for fresh fruit and delicate pastries at breakfast, followed by smoked salmon and creamy scrambled eggs.
The evening menu is pricy but exquisite and patriotic, with fresh Jersey sole and an ambitious selection of vegetarian dishes.
The rooms, though less striking, are substantial and bright, with luxurious looking beds piled high with pillows and cushions. French windows open up onto a miniscule balcony, but with room enough to pull over an armchair and push your toes out into the fresh air. Fresh nectarines, cosy bathrobes, magazines, chilled water and Molton Brown toiletries are all elegant touches.
Downstairs is the Palm Club, with an indoor swimming pool, spa pool, sauna, gym and tennis court.
