The MGBSFL has lost one of its finest talents after it was confirmed that Jamie Wolfson is moving to Hong Kong.
The Norstar London Raiders winger is one of the most naturally gifted players in the league and his departure is a blow to the team’s treble hopes, especially at such a critical stage of the season.
Wolfson was once described by former boss Adam Fegan as the “Jewish Messi” and I have seen him tear defences to shreds numerous times. There are few better in the league with the ball at their feet.
NLR boss Rob Richman said: “It’s such a shame to see him go, but he’ll have a brilliant time in Hong Kong.”
* London Lions boss Tony Gold has never hidden the fact that he wants players from the MGBSFL to challenge for a spot in his squad playing in the Spartan South Midlands League.
It appears he has been impressed with the calibre of players at Oakwood, although joint-manager Ric Blank appears far from flattered by the attention. Speaking after the cup win over Harmen, Blank quipped: “I’m just glad Tony wasn’t there - or he’d have been trying to sign even more of my players after just 20 minutes.”
* Harmen fans have been given a lift following the news that former Maccabiah captain Daniel Green has joined the club.
Green, who has played for London Lions’s Saturday team for past six years, is sure to bolster a front line that includes James Gershfield and Mike Pearson.
Harmen joint-manager Joel Alterman said: “Dan’s a proven goal-scorer and a great addition to our squad. He’s just what we needed to push for the league and Morrison double and we’re all looking forward to seeing him in action at the first available opportunity.”
* Hendon manager David Garbacz has been accused of lacking class by rival clubs more than once this season. But it appears he has turned over a new leaf.
Anyone who has played on 3G will tell you how annoying the overhead wires can be. Even more annoying when they result in a goal.
Commenting after the cup win over FC Team A, Garbacz said: “We scored a goal when the ball hit the wire in open play and fell kindly to Avishai Kestenbaum who went on to score. It was bad luck on Team, but those were the rules and we had to carry on in a professional way. It was just one of those things and they took it very well on the chin so well done to them for that.”
* Mazel tov to Israel and Celtic midfielder Beram Kayal following the birth of son, Pirlo, named after the Italian star.
Asked about his allegiances, proud dad Beram said: “In 20 years if he wants to play for Scotland I would be happy with that because the Scottish people have been so good to me for five years."
