Wingate & Finchley defeated neighbours Hendon 2-0 in a pre-season on Tuesday night.
Hendon dominated the early stages without actually creating any chances, but it was Wingate & Finchley who took the lead with a fantastic goal. Good work from Ola Williams allowed Leon Nelson to turn and shoot into the left corner.
Hendon's best chance came through a header from James Bent. Towards the end of the half they resorted to a few long range shots although they all failed to hit the target, the best effort coming from Kevin Maclaren.
Williams tested Hendon keeper Berkley Laurincin at the other end, while Dean Williams forced a good save too with a snapshot from a wide angle that was parried behind.
There were very few chances in the second half as, despite some excellent passing approach play from both sides, the defences stayed tight.
The Blues settled the game with just a few minutes left on the clock. As Nelson raced clear, Williams followed-up. The ball to Dave Laird who stroked the ball into net.
