Weinberger late show earns MLFC deserved point against champions

MLFC remained positive and felt confident they level the scores having been dominant so far. Before long, Mikey Perkins ran into a ball clipped over the back four and calmly held off his defender, putting the ball onto his left to slot past Russell Corin.

The Hendon goalkeeper had a great game and made some key saves, showing why he is regarded as the long-standing best keeper in the league.

MLFC continued to press in the second half and they saw three efforts on goal ricochet off the crossbar, including one of which hit the underside and seemed to go over the line, "but the ref felt it wasn’t clear enough".

Hendon also continued to press and won a penalty from a corner. Bloohn made himself big and saved the spot-kick, but Hendon arrived at the rebound first to convert from close-range.

MLFC continued pressing right to the final minute for an equaliser. In the dying seconds, what seemed like a clear handball in the box was not awarded, and with the ball cleared and appeals still ongoing, Jordan Nathan played an inch-perfect ball from the half way line over the back four, with Weinberger meeting it and burying the ball in one touch, an exquisite finish.

MLFC joint-player-manager Max Kyte told JC Sport: "We felt we deserved more on the day, but most importantly we’ve shown that we can and should be fighting for the title this year and next year.

"Laurence Judah and I were really pleased with the attitude and effort, and can’t ever ask for more."

Hendon boss Jordan Sapler told JC Sport: "It was a disappointing day at the office today. We were lucky to be in the lead and then a goal from MLFC at the death earned them a deserved draw.

"The injuries and lack of games are starting to take an affect but we will bounce back."

He added: "Saying that, MLFC are the best team that we’ve played this season and it’s easy to see why they’ve taken points off the other teams."
