Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun cut a frustrated figure after Liverpool slipped to third in the Premier League following Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw at Wigan.

Benayoun, 28, claimed his second goal of the season with a brilliant finish from an acute angle to put the Reds ahead after 41 minutes.

He was substituted after 75 minutes after receiving a knock to the head.

"Scoring goals is good on a personal level, but the important thing is to play well for the team,” he said. “I was quite happy with the way I played today, but it obviously wasn't good enough in the end.
