Martin Simons believes there is still room for improvement after Maccabi Manchester ran out 4-0 winners against Deloittes.
It was back to league action this weekend for Maccabi 1sts. It was evident from the start that after a week off, Maccabi would need time to get into their groove against Deloittes.
The opening 15 minutes proved this and a few good saves from first team debutant Reece Levy between the sticks kept Maccabi in the game.
Maccabi were slowly starting to create chances and after a dazzling dribble from Ryan Silvester, the winger was calm enough to find the back of the net with a dipping 25 yard shot.
As time went on, Maccabi continued to press and chances were carved with Oli Grant coming close and Sam Hatton hitting the woodwork. The second finally came when Deloittes failed to clear from a corner and Silverster pounced for his second of the game.
After the break, Maccabi still looked sluggish and it was from a lovely bit of magic from winger Oliver Grant that made the Deloittes net bulge again. A headed flick on by centre forward Alex Lee was latched on to by Grant who, took one touch to round the defender and with his second curled the ball away from the keeper with the outside of his right boot.
It was from another corner where Maccabi scored their final goal of the morning. This time David Herman nipped in at the near post to slot home, make it 4-0 to Maccabi and sealing the win.
Maccabi manager Martin Simons said: "We weren’t at our best today, despite the win, and need to ensure that we have the right mentality regardless of the opposition.
"We started slow and never really took control of the game. We can’t always rely on individual brilliance and need to ensure the whole team is switched on from the start and maintain focus throughout the game.
"Having said that we got the win, scored four goals and kept a clean sheet."
