Leeds Maccabi 3rd boss Alex Ullmann insists he never doubted his side would eventually claim that elusive win to break their MJSL duck.
Dan Davidson’s stunning hat-trick fired Leeds to their first victory of the season as Ullmann’s men defeated fellow strugglers Broughton 6-4 in a pulsating contest.
Leeds had taken just one point from their previous nine games before facing Broughton, but Ullmann says he always believed they would get to grips with the MJSL eventually.
“We know we have a formula to win games,” he said. “But with a squad engineered to introduce younger members to senior football, it rests solely on match experience to build confidence.
“Each player contributes to the game and we don’t have a single player who is not capable of that one piece of good play, that leads to a goal, or a great defensive move.
“This won't be the only three points that we win. It will be an interesting end to our season from here on.
“We have battled for a win since the beginning of the season. For the younger members of the team, to get three points at senior level is the ultimate boost in confidence.
“At roughly the halfway point in the season, we are looking forward to keeping this momentum going in coming matches.”
Rafi Kaye’s brace and Josh Isaac’s strike wrapped up the win for Leeds, who battled back from two goals down to claim victory.
And Ullmann says he was delighted with the courage and perseverance shown by his players after their slow start to the game.
He added: “Credit goes to the guys who train hard during the week and make extra efforts outside of formal training sessions.
“It goes to show that if you are prepared to make the effort, you will see the reward. Given our shaky start to the season, we realised that this fixture would be a competitive game and a ten-goal battle proved that point.
“It was a competitive game and that’s what makes the win sweet. Both teams made some great passing moves and threatened at different times.
“When we went 2-0 down in the opening 15 minutes, it was anyone’s game.
“The fact that the guys never dropped their heads and encouraged each other throughout is the icing on the cake for me and the rest of the managers.”
