Team Maccabi GB’s U18 football squad concluded their preparations for the European Maccabi Games in Berlin by attending a unique training camp at St George’s Park.
Managed by Simon Zamet and Adam Klein, the group undertook a leadership challenge course centered around teamwork and, driven by Joffe Bradley, they equaled the record set by the England Ladies Football Team. The squad then trained on the Wembley replica-sized pitches before playing a friendly against Lichfield City.
In a good work-out for the squad, the boys, wearing the Union Jack Mogen David jerseys, ran out 5-1 winners after a close first half with goals from Adam Burchell, Nick Barnett, Louie Greenham, Harry Marlow and Joffe Bradley.
Manager Simon Zamet said: "It was excellent preparation, giving the boys an opportunity to benefit from the world-class facilities and some constructive game time."
The U18 squad then took on a Barnet mixed Academy and Development team the following week at The Hive and produced an outstanding defensive display to keep the score goalless.
Zamet reflected: "The boys showed intelligence, discipline and great application against good quality opposition. This bodes well for Berlin."
