Oakhill 5-1 Manchester Maccabi 3rd
February 3, 2011 15:09League leaders Manchester Maccabi 3rd suffered a second successive defeat after a stunning second half recovery by Oakhill Lions.
Josh Hayes had put the visitors in front but a brace from Dan Cohen, an own goal and strikes from Ben Horne and Yoel Deal sealed a stunning win.
Manager Daniel Berkley said. "It was really nice to get a strong Oakhill team out and we were well worth the win."
A tightly contested first half saw few clear-cut chances falling to either side as they both battled to gain a foothold and some rhythm to their play.
Oakhill spurned several early openings with Cohen, Deal and Horne missing the target within the space of a few seconds following a goalmouth scramble.
Hayes opened the scoring after being sent through on goal by Richard Myers. He kept his composure to slot home.
Oakhill had competed well though and they equalised just after half time as Cohen stabbed home a cross from Horne at the back post.
An even contest swung Oakhill's way on the hour mark as Jonny Gilbert mis-kicked horribly following a cross to put the ball into his own net. From then on, Oakhill took charge as Maccabi crumbled.
It was déjà vu for the visitors who had also led at half time against Sporting last week before succumbing to a second half fight-back. Horne put daylight between the teams, latching onto a cross from Deal to finish.
With Maccabi desperately trying to find a way back into the game they were exposed twice more on the counter-attack. Deal finished off from close range following a swift break to make it four, and Cohen sealed the rout late on with a simple finish into the bottom corner.
Maccabi boss Martin Simons said: "The title race is completely open. It was a poor performance and if we want to win the title we have to improve.
"Selection issues have caused problems for us in the last two weeks but I am not sure we'd have won with any team out."
