As a Liverpool fan, I'm, absolutely gutted about Yossi Benayoun's move to Chelsea. I can't say that I blame him, although I would have preferred him to wait a little longer to find out who the next manager would be.
Despite Rafa Benitez's poor management of him, Yossi was arguably Liverpool's best player last season. He needs to be playing Champions League football and it's clearly a clever piece of business by Chelsea, who need to replace the outgoing Joe Cole.
Players like Yossi are not easy to find. He has two great feet, a clever football brain, can unlock a defence, doesn't have a big ego and has a great work ethic. And he's a snip at £6.5m. It will be hard to watch him doing well in a Chelsea shirt.
● There is always a great buzz during the first few days of Wimbledon but only time will tell whether or not Shahar Peer, Dudi Sela and Jonathan Erlich can continue their good form at SW19. Peer bowed out in the second round last year after overcoming Maria Elena Camerin. She succumbed to 10th seed Nadia Petrova. She usually gets a good reception in London, and going into the competition on the back of a boost in the rankings, a favourable draw could help her improve on a best showing of round four in 2008.
Sela goes into the competition fresh from his excellent win over Andy Roddick at Queens. He was eliminated in the fourth round last year by fourth seed Novak Djokovic.
In the doubles, Andy Ram and Jonathan Erlich are sure to turn some heads once more.
● I've spent much of the past few weeks attending various end-of-season awards. Southgate Harmen's 10-year anniversary got the ball rolling with the London Maccabi Lions, the JC MSFL and Maccabi GB National Primary League ones following.
Last weekend, my team North London Raiders held a BBQ at the home of chairman Jonathan Adelman, who was battling against a virus. Not known for my singing, I treated the boys to the Raiders Rap. I went down better than the lamb koftas but I've yet to any offers to release it in time for Chanukah.
● Having helped Jewish youth football in London survive a scare 12 months ago, Maccabi GB have also been very proactive to help Maccabi cricket. I'm sure that the charity's expertise, admin and organisational skills will help keep the sport afloat. Although a growing number of people dropping out of Jewish football and cricket, I'm sure that there are more footballers out there who, perhaps once the World Cup is over, are able to try their hand at cricket before pre-season training starts.
There are quite a few decent footballers who double as cricketers with London Maccabi's Aviel Schwarz and Andy Landesberg proving that age is no barrier. Several younger faces have also come through with Oakhill Lions' Alex Goldman recently joining Belmont & Edgware, along with UJS Norstar player-manager Phil Peters. The crossover is not just restricted to football as MAL's Matt Plax, the king of Maccabi Ten Pin Bowling, showed only last week.
● With so little Jewish involvement at the World Cup, I was interested to read about USA star Jonathan Bornstein's pre-match preparations on his blog. He said: "I'll have my iPod on, listening to some stuff to pump me up, like Rise Against. Once we get to the stadium, I have some superstitions: I'll put on my right sock before my left sock, and I won't tie my cleats until I get out on the field."
