Tzipi Obziler has left the door open to represent Israel at future Federation Cup matches after announcing her retirement.

After bringing to an end a remarkable career which began some 21 years ago, Obziler, 36, said: “If captain Lior Mor decides he wants me on the team and I see that I’m physically capable of playing, then of course I wouldn’t refuse.”

Andy Ram and Max Mirnyi were beaten by Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles in the final Rogers Cup in Montreal. The Israeli/Belarusian duo had beaten top seeds Bob and Mike Bryan in the semis.

A groin strain forced Dudi Sela, 24, to withdraw from the Cincinatti Open. He was trailing Spain’s Nicholas Almagro in the first round.
