Division One promotion rivals Blancos and Raiders B will be vying for a place in round three of the League Cup in Borehamwood on Sunday in what should be a top-quality contest.

Blancos will be putting their unbeaten record on the line against a Raiders team who will give them their toughest test yet, under their new regime.

With the announcement of the JC’s monthly awards for October expected shortly after the final whistle, Svi Freedman will be looking to give the judges another nudge following an impressive start to the campaign.

With a 3-0 win in the other cup competition under their belts – courtesy of goals from Josh Laurier, Alex Lewis and Daniel Sinclair, their tails are up.

Raiders bounced back from their first defeat in style, hitting L’Equipe for six and sharing the goals around in some style.

Scott Waissel and Brandon Sassoon produced eye-catching performances in a game where L’Orange played with great freedom.

But joint-manager Jonathan Adelman knows that a tougher test lies ahead. “After a superb footballing performance last weekend we’ll be looking to continue that form in to the Cup game with divisional rivals Los Blancos,” Adelman told JC Sport.

“Rob Blackman who scored a superb header last week whilst playing up front will be relishing his battle with centre back and former Raider Jake Doffman.”

With two more matches to come between these teams to follow in the league, both sets of players will be determined to put down a marker by securing their place in round three, and give themselves a psychological edge. Gideon Rabstein and Ben Lew have key roles to play in what will be open and entertaining affair that could go the distance.

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B vs OAKWOOD A

Oakwood will be looking to get a good performance under their belt ahead of next week’s London FA County Cup tie against Vista.

It’s been a stop-start season for the league champions up to now but they have really looked the part, and have also beefed up their squad with quality, including the recent addition of midfielder Jake Bentwood.

There are no weak link in this Oakwood team, they have great strength in depth and their spirit and character is second to none.

They also have a number of players prepared to get stuck in and do the ugly work, which sets them apart from many others. Players such as Brad Wine, David Woolman, Leor Sidle and Sam Cantor have a winning mentality and great work ethic on the pitch. They are prepared to press high and chase lost causes while the boys at the back give goalkeeper Dean Caplin excellent protection.

Oaks joint-manager Dan Kristall told JC Sport: "We expect a very tough game against a strong Redbridge outfit. They’re one of the top sides in the division below and they will get the respect they deserve.

"We know our Essex hosts will be very much up for this game and from our perspective, we must cut out the errors and improve at the back. We want to keep winning games and look forward to Sunday."

Redbridge will be relatively fresh after their outing against Faithfold was cut short by an injury to Daniel Cooper. They matched the Superhoops and their work-rate and organisation was impressive.

Can Oakwood do it on a cold, dark morning in Essex? I have absolutely no doubts.

JC team news: Daniel Cooper faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his knee last weekend. Josh Kalinsky is suspended.

Brady will be looking to complete an early season double over Lions Blue ahead of the latest Rowley Lane derby.

Rob Cohen and Reiss Mogilner registered in the 2-0 win at the start of the month in what was Brady’s only clean sheet to date.

Having been given a walkover in the Cyril Anekstein Cup after Temple Fortune B forfeited, managers Joel Nathan, Josh Dagul and Elliot Dagul have had plenty of time to reflect on their second half horror show against Oakwood a fortnight ago.

However, Nathan predicts a tough 90 minutes against a Lions team who will be out for revenge.

Nathan told JC Sport: “Unfortunately we are down to bare bones on Sunday as we have a few injuries which we had hoped would clear up especially after a week’s rest but it’s not to be.

“However, we will be ready for whatever MLL Blue throw at us as we are still smarting after our last game against Oakwood.

“We know all about the opposition having played them in the cup a few weeks ago and I am sure they will be up for revenge in this local derby.”

Sam Marchant got the reaction he wanted against Raiders last weekend. David Nezri was the star of the show – producing one of the “best performances” Nathan has seen in recent years.

Goal-poacher Josh Bloom was a real thorn in the side of NLR, ensuring Brady finished the stronger.

Marchant will encourage his players to “push on and keep building” after what was an encouraging 90 minutes.

He told JC Sport: “On Sunday we hope to push on from our good performance and result last week and get another win on the board.

"Playing at the higher level is something we are still adjusting to but I think we are settling in nicely.

"The confidence is good after last Sunday and we don’t see why we can’t go again this week and do the same.

"We played Brady a few weeks ago in the Cyril Anekstein so we have a good feel for them and we think it will be an interesting game."

In terms of a prediction, this one is too close to call. But I think there will be goals.

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A vs CAMDEN PARK

Jonny Adelman will take charge of Raiders for Sunday’s match against basement battlers Camden Park, with manager Dan Shafron celebrating his engagement. (Ed. big mazels from all at JC towers!)

Bouncebackability is the name of the game for a Raiders team who could do with an injection of goals. They are strong in midfield but it’s important David Dinkin gets better service.

Camden hadn’t scored many goals until last weekend’s cup clash against second division FC Team. Stirling Kay’s men rode their luck as Team missed two first-half penalties before Camden eventually romped home 5-2.

Summer signing Danny Sherman showed what he can do with good delivery while Jake Saunders was on a different level.

Dan Orgel and Max Saunders also chipped in with goals, as the Camden team benefitted from a change of formation in the second half.

Raiders have only secured one win in four home matches and it’s important they make a fast start and give their fans something to cheer about.

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS WHITE

Leaders Redbridge go in search of their fourth win on the spin when they welcome Lions White.

A cup exit at the hands of first division table-toppers Faithfold A has been the only aberration on their record but if anything it has helped them retain their focus on the task at hand.

Nathan Sollosi was in one of those moods against Scrabble last week, finding the target four times in a game that Redbridge played in first gear. Sam McCarthy,Sam Sollosi and James Barkley added the gloss in a one-sided contest.

Joint-manager Jon Jacobs has been in Bangladesh this week but the club have chartered a special flight to ensure he’s home in time for kick-off.

No doubt James Gershfield will be picking the brains of Sam Marchant at training this week following Lions Blues’ recent match against Redbridge.

Looking ahead to the game, Gershfield told JC Sport: "We go into a very difficult away fixture this Sunday with three suspensions and two injuries. To say our squad is light for Sunday is an understatement.

"Having said that, we put in a great shift against AFC Rangers in the Herts Senior Cup last Sunday and narrowly lost 1-0. Last time out in the league we beat the other Lions team 4-3 having come back from 3-0 down, so confidence is high and team morale is good."

The Whites have won their last two in Maccabi football and Gershfield hopes they have turned the corner after a dodgy start. But they have yet to keep a clean sheet and their character will be tested by a Redbridge team looking to make another statement.

JC team news: Lions are without Ben Lampert, Conor Perl and Max Hassell all through suspension and Alex Taylor and Jamie Jackson are both out. Jack Mattey returns, which Gershfield describes as "a huge boost and if we can defend well I am confident we can catch Redbridge on the break with our pace". Kiki Levin "looked sharp in training and matches and I fancy him to bag a goal or two on the weekend".

Another week, another goalkeeper for L’Equipe. They found the going tough against a strong Raiders B side last weekend, although Andy Smith managed to add another two goals to his tally.

The evergreen Elliot Gordon is the latest stopper to don the famous no. 1 jersey of last season’s Division Two champions. And he could be in for a busy morning at the same ground Nick Stern’s men were crowned earlier this year.

Ahead of kick-off, Stern told JC Sport: “A big thank you to Elliot Gordon for stepping up to help us out. And a big, big thank you to the same regulars that step up week in, week out to play with a smile on their faces.

“Trust me one day we will win a league game and we will cause a huge shock … this weekend, let’s wait and see.

“The Morrison Trophy is our priority this year and after the results last weekend we are in with a real shout of winning, especially as we’re already in the second round.”

Faithfold were within touching distance of another win before disaster struck and their match against Redbridge was abandoned.

Avi Markiewicz’s men were menacing going forwards, with a combination of good goalkeeping and the woodwork keeping them at bay. David Leiwy had put them in front with a penalty about as well-taken as you will ever see.

Player-manager Avi Markiewicz will warn his players against complacency and told JC Sport: "This afternoon I was worried we wouldn't have 10 and that includes myself. As of now we have an excellent squad but who knows what state it will in be in by Sunday morning.

"We have already played L'Equipe this season and as both of us are Division Two old boys, so we know each other very well. They are a strong, tall and physical team who are a big threat at set-pieces.

"We hope that we can continue our form, play our game and do what we have been doing so far."

Faithfold fans will arrive confident of seeing their heroes register league win number four. And that’s what I’m predicting.

Oakwood had the luxury of playing Sam Cantor up top in their last match – a 5-1 win over Redbridge C. But with the Premier Division champions in action, Jason Stein will need to go with his tried and tested formula for the trip to Silver Jubilee Park.

Super-sub Sam Modlin will be pushing for a start after firing a double while Stein is demanding an improvement at the back following a string of “silly mistakes”.

Fortune boss Simon Linden has been busy bringing in reinforcements after a bad start. Masters stars Ranana Firmin and Lloyd Becker featured last time out.

The home side lie just a point off the foot of the table with one point from five games. But chairman Nigel Kyte assures me that Linden is “determined to turn things around for the newly promoted team”.

Ahead of kick-off, Linden told JC Sport: "I’m hit with quite a few injuries and quite a few players out because they don’t enjoy losing games and when the going gets tough they move on.

"One things for sure, the Fortune squad at silver jubilee on Sunday will be made up of players that have passion, fight and want to help us kick-start our season."

The first 20 minutes are crucial for Fortune as the crowd could turn if Oakwood score an early goal.

Brandon Hamme is taking nothing for granted ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Faithfold B.

Adam Isaacs, Joel Sinclair-Horne, Zach Cohen and Jason Weldon were the men who breached the Faithfold defence in a 4-1 win in September and Hamme is keen to see a repeat performance.

He told JC Sport: “We are back from a fortnight off after my birthday celebrations last weekend and the boys all in good spirits and raring to get back into things this Sunday.

“We face a Faithfold side that we faced on the opening day of the season and we know from that game that they are no pushovers.

“We managed to get the win on the day but they didn’t make things easy for us and we know we will be in for another challenging game this weekend.

“I believe we are getting stronger as the weeks go on so I have full faith in the boys to put in a good performance which will hopefully be enough to get us all three points.”

The Dons have games in hand on the teams above them but with the likes of Catford & Bromley, Bayern Mincha, Fairlop and Raiders capable of pulling away, Hamme knows the importance of picking up another win.

Faithfold secured their second win in three matches after beating Hertswood last weekend. Moishi Lewis was the star man, scoring a belter of a goal in a man-of-the-match display.

Neither teams has kept a clean sheet this season which leads me to believe goals will be on the menu. And I can see home advantage holding sway.

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C vs FC TEAM

Raiders and FC Team have had some classic battles over the years and victory for Mitch Young’s boys would take them to within a point of L’Orange on Sunday.

NLR chief Sam Rose was at rock bottom after the 4-1 defeat against Bayern last week but a big crowd should definitely get him in the mood for what has long been one of the standout fixtures in the calender.

Rose told JC Sport: “After last week’s tough result, we’ve all had the chance to go away and self-reflect on what happened and what we want to achieve for the season.

“I know these lads and I know my team, and I know they want to achieve success for this club. We won a trophy at the end of last season, and you don’t lose the attributes that led us to that over a few games.

“So FC Team should be prepared for a rejuvenated Raiders side this weekend as we go looking for the bounce back result. Don’t count us out yet Caro.”

FC Team missed a golden opportunity to record a shock in the cup last weekend. They failed to convert two first-half penalties and finished on the wrong end of a 5-2 scoreline, with Jon Breger and Richard Salmon grabbing the goals.

Mitch Young is loving life in Division Two and he’s back doing what he does best … scoring goals. And with Team having won three on the spin they will be bang up for this one.

I have a feeling any neutrals in the vicinity could be treated to one of the games of the season.

The Pirates cannot wait to unveil record new signing Jake Yudelowitz following his move from North London Raiders.

Boss Elliot Cukier could hardly contain his delight after getting his “good friend” to agree terms on a long-term deal.

“It’s been in the pipeline for a few weeks,” a proud Cukier told JC Sport. “Jake has a winning history with Lions teams, has agreed to come join the fantastic project we are building here and will join our existing centre-backs in creating a rock solid defence as we look to climb the table.

“Jake is someone I've known well for a long time, since his EBOR Eagles days, and I have always been a great admirer of his talents.

“When he initially expressed an interest in joining the project, I didn't believe he was telling the truth. But here we are, a few weeks down the line, and it’s all in place.

“This is going to be a real lift for our boys, especially ones who are less experienced, to come and see a player of this stature come in and will also put all teams in Division Two on notice that we mean business.

“Many thanks to Dan Shafron and all the Raiders guys for allowing this to happen. We have had some great performances so far this season, and as we look to Boca on Sunday, we have an extra spring in our step as we look to climb the league.”

The only way is up for Boca who have suffered five defeats on the spin. Last weekend’s 3-0 defeat against Real was the third game they have failed to score in the league this season and the news about Yudelowitz will only make that task harder.

This is one of the matches under consideration for JC match coverage as high-flying Bayern prepare to tackle dark horses Real.

The Bayern boys have won their last three league games 4-1 and must be close to breaking some kind of MGBSFL record, one would think.

Adam Ellis failed to add to his tally in the impressive win over Raiders C last weekend, when Jake Dayan and Josh Levy fired two apiece.

Joint-boss Alon Pinhas told JC Sport: “Once again, with everyone being in great form, it was hard for us to pick a squad of 14 with 18 lads available.

“We know we have a strong squad and will definitely go into this game with a high team morale.

“If we play the way we have been playing for the last few games, we will do the double against Real Hendon and come back home with another three points, which are extremely vital if we want to keep our hopes of winning the league.

“We know Hendon will be up for this game after our win against them a few weeks back, therefore we will not be taking this game lightly. They also have the advantage of the match being played on their turf so we know we will be in for a fun game.

“Goalkeeper Yoseph Manuel Nyman was a doubt for this week with an ankle injury but he’s decided that he’s eager to get his first clean sheet of the season and this is the game he wants to get it, so we are expecting a big performance from him this Sunday.”

Real enjoyed a straightforward victory at Boca last week when Ben Goldberg was the two-goal hero. Adam Hersh chipped in with another in a game where defenders Gali Kolt and Gilad Kestenbaum were rock solid.

But the Real boys know they will need to find another gear against one of the division’s fancied teams.
