It was a steady start for South Manchester on Sunday as they began their defence of the title with a five wicket win against new boys Salford.

After winning the toss, Salford were asked to bat on a slow pitch. Veteran Jonny Wineberg (14) held the innings together, despite straining a hamstring early on, but the remaining batsmen had no answer to the pace of the Lieberman brothers who finished with five wickets between them.

A couple of wickets from Rabinovitz and two in two balls from Steve Moss finished the Salford innings on 113.

South got off to a dreadful start losing Jody Marks cheaply and were on 8-2 when Akiva Lieberman strode to the wicket. He then proceeded to smash the Salford bowling all over the park and finished with a fine 60. Despite excellent bowling from Salford captain, Daniel Paul (3-19), it just needed stand in skipper Steve Glicher to knock off the remaining runs to give South their first win of the season.
