“This was an Under-18 tournament, but our girls were mostly 14-16 year-olds. But they all clicked well from the start and we are all surprised, but delighted, at just how well they have surpassed themselves.”
One of the stars of the team to emerge during the competition was goalkeeper Tash Leek.
Manager Jessica Tray said: “Tash has been brilliant helping us get to the final. She only started playing about three months ago and whereas most goalkeepers make seven or eight great saves in a match, Tash has been making 12 or 13!.”
There was one worrying moment in the final when Kezia Levy was carried off on a stretcher with an ankle injury. But Goldstein, who has lived in London with her English husband for the past four years, said: “It looked serious at first, but fortunately she is fine.”
