Shachar Head produced yet another masterclass to win the inaugural BDFPA Powerlifting competition at the Four Nations Championships.
The 16-year-old recorded personal bests in all disciplines including a squat of 140kg, bench press of 80kg and a massive 165kg deadlift.
Head, who defeated Scotland’s Bernie Cunningham in the women’s event, surpassed her best ever total by lifting a combined 375kg – taking her up third place in this year’s British rankings.
"I was pleased with my lifting because I really did not expect to lift any where near as well as I did,” she said.
"I couldn't have asked to do better with three personal bests and a total personal best to win the overall female competition.
"I'm so pleased with how it all went. I can start to build my strength up even more and focus on the parts of the lift that need improving."
Head will now turn her attention to qualifying for the prestigious “Power2Podium” scheme, which would enable her to train with some of the most talented athletes in the country.
The Devon-based lifter was one of 250 juniors to undergo testing for the scheme and Head is now just one of 25 remaining. She will now go on `to the next stage where she could win a place in the national development squad.
"I can't believe I got through to the talent academy phase,” she added.
"I honestly didn't expect it. To get through to the Great Britain development squad would mean so much to me.
"I don’t think I’ve ever wanted something so badly before. This will give me the chance to develop as an athlete and also as a person.
"It’s a perfect opportunity to build my self confidence, not just my weightlifting ability."
