Dudi Sela advanced into the second round of the US Open with a superb five-sets victory over Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia.

Sela, who qualified for the tournament automatically, produced an heroic performance to win a four-hour marathon at Flushing Meadow.

America’s Michael Russell bowed out in straight sets against eighth seed Richard Gasquet.

Julia Glushko faces a tough match in the first round of the Ladies event, where she takes on 20th seed Nadia Petrova.
