Dmitriy Salita aims to take a significant step towards a second world title shot when he takes on Gabriel Bracero on November 9.
The clash features two immigrant Brooklyn-based boxers, who have been beaten only once each, fighting in their home neighbourhood at the Aviator Sports and Events Centre.
"This is a high-level crossroads fight,” said Salita ahead of the 10-round welterweight showdown. “After a win would come a world title opportunity, or something similar."
Ukraine-born Salita’s only defeat in 37 professional fights came when he was stopped in the first round by then champion Amir Khan in 2009.
He has since stepped up to welterweight, rebuilt his career and is back in contention for a world title following five straight victories.
Bracero, 32, from Puerto Rico, has world title aspirations of his own after winning 22 of his 23 outings.
But he does not have a reputation as a big puncher, with only four of the victories having come inside the distance, while Salita has won 18 inside schedule.
The rivals have known each other since they were youngsters and Salita added: "I have a lot of respect for Gabe, I know what type of fighter he is. He is a warrior and I think it’s going to be very spirited."
