Adam Lustigman has been handed a boost ahead of this week’s Jom Ha Voetbal competition in Amsterdam after Darren Saffer announced himself fit to join the squad.
The former Camden Park marksman joins the WHAFC squad in the 13-team tournament, although long-term injuries have restricted him to playing in goal.
WHAFC find themselves in the same group as defending champions Brussels Tigers and Lustigman revealed his team will adopt defensive tactics in a bid to reach the latter stages.
"It will be all hands on deck this year as there is little recovery time in between matches.
"We're down to the bare bones and all the boys know it’s going to be hard. We are the only English team in the Open competition and will be implementing the 6-4-0 formation Slovakia implemented against England at Euro 2016. It worked well
for us last year, when I was hailed a tactical genius."
The team warmed-up for the event with a 5-5 draw against EDRS Stonegrove Masters in a friendly match.
Five players will be making their tournament debut in Holland and Lustigman admits it “could be a bit of a culture shock for them”. He said: “We’re missing David Garson, Ben Simons, Nick Roman and Zuriel Solomon this year, but we hope to enjoy ourselves and show the new boys what the Jewish community does sport-wise in Europe away from the Maccabiah.
