Former Spurs player Robbie Keane has been accused of 'chasing shekels' by accepting a job as the new manager of Israeli Premier League side Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Keane, who played for Ireland, Tottenham Hotspur, and LA Galaxy in his illustrious career, scoring more than 400 goals, was announced by the club earlier on Monday morning on a two-year-deal.

In a statement, he said: “My team and I are already looking forward to starting work and we are confident in our ability to do what is necessary to prepare the team for the upcoming season.”

"I am happy to take on this challenge at Maccabi."
