The opening few weeks of the MGBSFL season saw some fantastic individual performances, but the goal-scoring achievements of Oakwood B hotshot Jacob Richler Kleiman earned him my first MGBSFL Player of the Month award.
The former Manchester Maccabi marksman hit the target eight times in September to propel his Oakwood team to second in Division One. He finished with eight goals in three games and started October in fine fettle by firing a match-winning hat-trick.
His manager, Jason Stein, described him as "cool and collected in front of goal" and highlighted his recent four-goal salvo against Blancos, with a broken nose. Stein commented: "Jacob has a goal-scorer instinct and turns his chances into goals."
Ray Abrahams of Scrabble FC marked his return from a 10-year sabbatical from Sunday morning football by winning the best manager accolade.
● Alan Aaronson has played down fears of Brixton Old Boys folding after they were forced to forfeit for the second time this season.
Last week the MGBSFL saw London Rovers collapse and there were concerns that Brixton would be next to go, but manager Alan Aaronson was keen to set the record straight.
He said: "There are some rumours surrounding our clubs about Brixton pulling out of the league due to a thin squad. This is simply not the case.
"We did have a small squad due to a few players opting for Masters League action at the last minute, around the start of the season. We wish them well.
"However, we have replenished numbers and now have a very decent squad in terms of quantity and quality.
"We were obliged to pull out of the cup on Sunday because player registration for the competition must take place two weeks before a fixture.
"We had a rush of players only seven to 10 days ago during our recruitment drive. Thus, many had missed that registration deadline for this cup. However they are all set to play in the league."
● South Manchester Sports CC's Akiva Lieberman collected two pieces of silverware at the Greater Manchester Amateur League's end of season awards. The star batsman was acknowledged for registering the top score in Division Three as well as holding the highest average. The club also retained the Most Sporting team accolade. Captain Steven Glicher said: "This says something about how we play the game so I'm delighted for all involved."
