London Inter-League Cup – Match Two
North London & South Herts League 3 JC MSFL Rep Team 1
The JC MSFL rep team bowed out of the London Inter-League Cup after losing their second consecutive match in the London Inter-League Cup.
Having lost their first match 2-0 against the Turkish Federation League, a win was essential to keep them in the competition.
Jonathan Kestenbaum’s men let slip a one-goal lead, given to them after 15 minutes by London Maccabi Lions’ Tony Gold, and went into the break 2-1 down.
Gold appeared to have squared things up direct from a free-kick, only for the referee to disallow the effort for encroachment. North London wrapped up the match with a third.
Rep team boss Jonathan Kestenbaum said: “The disallowed goal was a very unfortunate incident that may have changed the game.
“But the real story last night was whether we have the talent pool to compete at this level in the absence of the 12 regular players who were unavailable. I believe that this season the benefits have been enormous since it allowed eight boys who have not been Rep team players to step up.
“There is considerable promise and last night was a very encouraging sign that even though the entire team which did so well last season was absent, the replacements stepped up and competed.
“Ultimately the tournament is about results and on that basis we are disappointed with the outcome. But if it produces another few players who will be ready for the step up in standard, then it’s an important exercise.
“Every one of the new players last night were struck by the immense difference in pace, strength and touch at this level. But I am optimistic that there is an increasing talent pool from which we can draw.”
