Michael Gaswirth is eyeing long-awaited cup success with Reich Insurance Rangers.
Reich are just one win away from booking a spot in the Harold Feldman Trophy final at Oldham’s Boundary Park.
They were forced to come from behind to earn a quarter-final win over Haroldeans
And for director of football Gaswirth, a big day out has been 15 years in waiting.
Gaswirth said: "We are due a run in this competition. In my 15 years here we have never reached a final.
"It's incredible really. We don't normally come into our own until the second half of the season. But by that time we have already crashed out. Now we are taking this seriously.
"We won't win the league but we are targeting the cups. I think if we can avoid Leeds Maccabi in the last-four then we will be confident of progressing."
Jordan Brookes opened the scoring for the Merseysiders before Gaswirth and Simon Lachs netted.
Gaswirth added: "It wasn’t the best of games but it’s all about going through in cup competitions.
"They might not be enjoying the best season but you never face an easy game against Haroldeans.
"We have a full squad of players to choose from and that’s making a difference. It’s leaving the manager with a selection headache."
Meanwhile, Heaton Park Rovers stunned Oakhill Lions 4-2 in the first round of the competition.
The students saw their 100 per cent start to the season ended in surprising fashion.
Harry Roache (2), brother Jack and Jonathan Franks were on target for David Seligman’s men.
Oakhill were always playing catch-up with strikes from Osher Landes and Dan Rabinowitz proving scant consolation as they bowed out.
