Red-hot Woolman inspires Leeds

But Oshri Amar and Josh Rose also got in on the act with second-half strikes to kill off the game, in a contest where fog caused havoc for both sets of players.

“The referee wasn’t too happy about the conditions, but we were happy to get the game on and get the win,” said boss Selwyn.

“Dave Woolman is on fire at the moment and he’s scoring plenty of goals.

“He was excellent, although perhaps the team lacked a bit of sparkle.

“Northern Star are bottom of the league and haven’t really been in a game all season.

“Perhaps they just raised their game for us, I don’t quite know, but it was good to get the win."

Leeds made a rapid start with Woolman scoring three times inside the opening half hour.

The prolific striker smashed home a rasping 22-yard free-kick before adding a second from the exact same spot just minutes later.

Midfielder Rose then set up Woolman for his hat-trick, playing in the striker, who then came inside and chipped the Star goalkeeper.

But Leeds took their foot off the pedal. allowing the home side to claw their way back into the contest with two quick goals before the break.

But any hopes of a Star fightback were quickly blown away as Amar slotted home from 12-yards after Woolman’s pullback.

Woolman grabbed his fourth and Maccabi’s fifth after running through on goal and beating the keeper, before Rose rounded off the scoring with a drive from 20-yards.

“It was a good win but we didn’t play our best football,” added Selwyn.

“Results have gone for us and we’re still in with a chance in the league but we need to improve.

“We need to make sure we can beat the teams around us, instead of drawing with them and then perhaps we’ll have a chance.”
