“Watch out for us next season.” That was the message from North London Raiders A manager Adam Fegan after his team surprised JC MSFL Division One leaders South Manx A 6-2.
The amber men raced into a three-goal lead with Johnny Blain (2), making it seven goals in two weeks, Danny Bloom, Michael Sacks, Adam Posner and David Rhodes finishing the job.
Fegan said: “The result proves how far we have come. We had five different scorers which shows that we are playing like a team and not reliant on any individuals.
“Against Woodford the previous week, we started slowly and we needed to put that right this week. It was therefore very pleasing when we rushed into a 3-0 lead.
“This season has always been about stabilising this team and building for the future. It took us a long time to get going, but things are starting to click. We have some real quality in this team, the problem still remains that because we have several boys at university we can’t put out the same team every week. But over the past two weeks we have shown what we can do when we have our strongest 14 available.
“However, now that we are picking up wins we are starting to sign some quality players so the future is looking very bright for this team.”
Manx boss John Nitka said: “Bearing in mind we only had nine of my first team squad, plus one player from the Bs and myself, we did not start on a very sound basis. In addition to this, going down to 10 men after losing my centre half to injury after 15 minutes and then be 4-0 down after 25 minutes didn’t help.
“However, if we had a full compliment of players I know the score would have been totally different. But you cannot take anything away from Raiders’ performance as they capitalised on this situation.
“All the players and I know now is we have to win our remaining seven games to gain promotion as we are good enough for the Premier Division. We are still in both the Cyril Anekstein and Peter Morrison Cups and aim to progress further.”
Bafana Bafana went fourth after playing out a goalless draw against Montana Boca United A in the Premier Division.
A goal from Rob Benson earned Temple Fortune their second win of the season as they beat Holy Mount Zion in Division Two. John Fisher put Fortune ahead with Rob Lerner hauling HMZ level on the stroke of half time.
