South Manchester bounced back from their disappointment against Flixton by beating old nemesis Miam Miam.
South shook off the cobwebs, much like shaking the lulav and etrog, following a week-long break. A couple of early chances were snatched at, before Louis Rawlings headed home from a Ben Peppi in-swinging corner.
Ben Peppi doubled South's league with a 25-yard dipping strike, that proved to hot for the Miam Miam keeper to handle.
As has happened so often this season, a two-goal lead has changed the game, and Miam Miam pulled one back with 25 to play, making it a nervy finish.
But South hung on for a vital three points, much to the delight of joint-manager Paul Kirkham. He said: "We are building. We know there are going to be a number of stumbling blocks along the way, but our aim is to limit these and channel what we learn at training on a Wednesday night into a game related situation."
Kirkham went on to say: "We are building a house and you start with the foundations and finish with the chimney. I think we’re currently at the front door and the downstairs loo and am hoping over the next few months we’ll sort the upstairs, the attic and roof, potentially add on a conservatory and maybe an ensuite in the master bedroom."
Elsewhere, Marc Magid's 2nd team shared a point each with Oakhill. South should have taken all three points, but found themselves a goal down through a freak own goal, nodded home by international veteran Laurence Newman. He did however grab the equaliser in the last minute of the game to earn South a point.
Magic said: "Laurence showed everyone why he has been capped at international at several tournaments. He showed the kids there's only one way to react to a setback, and he wasn't happy at just that - he grabbed the ball and ran back to his own half - it was great to see."
Magid also praised his side after taking four points in their last two games, following a difficult start to the season.
"The boys train each week and love representing the badge. We started badly, but we kept at it and hopefully results will continue to come."
