Shahar Peer saved Israel from relegation in the Federation Cup.
After losing to Belgium and Croatia in the Europe/Africa Zone A in Hungary, Peer returned from injury for the final match to lead a 2-1 victory over Latvia.
Peer cruised past Diana Marcinkevica 6-1, 6-1, while Julia Glushko beat Jelena Ostapenko 7-5, 6-3. Israel's doubles pairing of Keren Shlomo and Alona Pushkarevsky lost the final rubber.
Peer said: "I didn't play my best tennis but the main thing is we avoided relegation and that makes me happy and that my injury is healing and I didn't feel any pain."
Glushko was happy with her performances against Croatia and Belgium, and was "encouraged by the improvement in my serve".
