Shahar Peer had a smile on her face after reaching the second round of the ladies doubles at Wimbledon on Thursday afternoon.

The Israeli was at rock bottom after her shock elimination in the first round of the singles on Monday, but she moved around the court with fluency and played with conviction as she and Cara Black claimed a straight sets win over Brits Sarah Borwell and Melanie South on a packed Court 5.

Peer said:: "I was very happy with my performance. I played good tennis and served and volleyed well.

"After going out of the singles, it was a good thing to have the doubles and I'm happy to still be involved in Wimbledon.
