Shahar Peer beat Britain's Johanna Konta (121) in the first round of the US Open.

Peer powered her way past Konta 6-2, 6-3 to reach a grand slam second round for the first time since January 2013 in Australia.

The Israel has slipped to 155 in the rankings but has a real chance to progress further in Flushing Meadow where she is scheduled to meet Croatia's Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (121) in the second round.

There was disappointment for compatriot Julia Glushko (101) who was swept aside 2-6, 3-6 by qualifier Madison Brengle (123) of the US.
