American fencer Sada Jacobson became the first Jewish medallist of the Beijing Olympics after taking silver in an all-American final against defending champion Mariel Zagunis.
Shahar Peer bowed out in the second round of the women's singles. Having beating Romanian Sorana Cirstea in round one, she succumbed to ninth seed Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 7-6.
Fellow Israeli Tzipi Obziler received a late call-up into the women's singles after replacing injured top seed Ana Ivanovic. She lost 7-5, 5-7, 6-4 against Mariya Koryttseva of the Ukraine.
In the 60Kg Judo event, Israel's Gal Yekutiel just missed out on a bronze medal as he was beaten by Ruben Houkes of the Netherlands. As two bronze medals are awarded for the sport he finished fifth.
Controversy erupted in the pool when Iranian swimmer Mohammad Alirezaeli failed to take his place in lane one in the fourth heat of the 100m breaststroke which had Israel's Tom Beeri in lane seven. The IOC have accepted the word of Alirezaeli that he withdrew through illness.
Israeli fencer Delila Hatuel was out of luck in the women's foil event Monday as she lost out by one hit in extra time to Victoria Nikichina of Russia 10-9 and ended in 19th place.
Jason Lezak, the oldest swimmer on the US team at 32, produced a magnificent 46.06 in his leg of the final of the 4x100m freestyle relay to earn America gold, and help Michael Phelps collect the second of the eight he is aiming for. The second US Jewish swimmer was 23 year old Texan Garrett Weber-Gale who was also fastest in the final with 47.02.
Shahar Zubari is going from strength to strength in the mistral sailing competition. He followed up Monday's first and third place finishes with identical performances on Tuesday and has opened up a big lead in first place. A place on the podium looks guaranteed.
The female duo Vered Busquila and Nika Kornitzky finshed first and second today in the 470 class sailing and have moved up to fourth place.
