Lee Korzits had another encouraging day in the Women's Windsurfing competition, but there was disappointment for athletes Jillian Schwartz and Donald Sanford. Steven Solomon put in a stunning performance in the 400m.
WINDSURFING
Israel's top medal hope Lee Korzits returned to second place after an excellent performance in the Women's RS-X event in Weymouth.
Korzits looked refreshed after a 24-hour break to climb a place after finishing her race in 25:39 to leave her just behind Marina Alabau of Spain.
Her finish sets the defending world champion up nicely for Tuesday's medal race which follows 10 preliminary events.
ATHLETICS
Donald Sanford finished a credible fifth in Heat 3 of the Men's 400m at the Olympic Park. He crossed the line in 45.71 but missed out on a place in the semi-finals.
Teammate Jillian Schwartz failed to reach the finals of the Women's Pole Vault. She cleared 4.10m at her first attempt and then 4.25m on her third effort. The signs looked good when Schwartz, who was born in Illinois, succeeded with her first effort at 4.40m but she crashed out following three failures at 4.50m in her second Olympics.
Steven Solomon of Australia put in one of the performances of the day to reach the semi-finals of the Men's 400m.
The former Maccabiah Games star, 19, beat 2008 Olympic champion LaShawn Merritt on his way to a winning time of 45.18 seconds - a new personal best.
"I am really, really happy," Solomon said. "I was able to execute my race plan as I wanted and not get caught up with emotions."
