Sam Waley-Cohen failed to maintain his excellent record at Aintree after coming a cropper at the second fence at the Grant National.
Riding 100-1 shot Ollie Magern, Waley-Cohen, 26, remained calm during a number of false starts before being dismantled in the open straight.
“We got the start we were looking for but it is the nature of the race,” said Waley-Cohen. “We did not climb high enough but they are pretty big fences. It makes you hungry to do it again next year.”
