Two goals from Jake Gilbert helped Oakhill Lions win the Shonn Trophy after beating Manchester Maccabi 3rd 3-1 on Thursday night.

An exciting final was not decided until the last few minutes at Salford City FC’s Moor Lane ground.

Maccabi went close with several corners and a couple of half chances in the opening exchanges, but it was Oakhill, who had perhaps played the better football, that looked most likely to get the breakthrough and they broke the deadlock on 38 minutes when Gilbert was left unmarked and volleyed home spectacularly from 10 yards.

The Oaks doubled the lead on the stroke of half time when a goalkeeping error allowed Ben Horn to fire home.
