This week's big football announcement saw Fabio Capello name his 23-man squad that will fly the flag in South Africa. Well, on Monday, it's the turn of the JC MSFL who will crown its Player of the Year at the end of season awards.
Although there are usually one or two surprises, it would be a major shock if someone from double winners North West Neasden A did not win the big prize, although there are a couple of strong contenders from London Maccabi Lions A.
The evening will be a celebration of the world's biggest Jewish league. As well as the top player award, the Young Player, Manager, Referee and Sportsmanship titles will be up for grabs.
In what can only be described as the most challenging of seasons, it is fair to say that league officials are breathing a huge sigh of relief after the campaign was completed on time. The bad weather that left many teams kicking their heels between November and March did not prevent all clubs finishing inside the May 31 deadline.
Both cup competitions were also completed with Neasden claiming an unprecedented three Premier Division and Peter Morrison Trophy doubles.
On the flipside, the season will be remembered for the teams that folded as well as the controversy over the Rep team's involvement in the London Inter-League Cup.
Over the summer I will be running a transfer rumour mill covering the MJSL and MSFL, so keep me posted about the ins and outs at your club. I've already heard some early whispers that include London Lions moving for Sam Sloma, who was recently released by Woking, and Craig Ellis, while Sloma has also been touted to play for Montana Boca United on Sundays.
● WHAFC and South Manchester Maccabi will be flying the flag at the Jom Ha Voetbal tournament in Amsterdam over the weekend. WHAFC player-manager Adam Lustigman, who will be making his 18th appearance at the football festival, has named a 12-man squad in a 16-team event. Competing for the 15th consecutive year, WHAFC are guaranteed at least five matches with debutant Jay Beckman hoping to take Europe by storm.
● Hasmonean Boys have won the Barnet South Sport School Partnership award for School of the Month for May. The 6th Form's football team recently lost in the Barnet Under 18s Cup final. The school have also introduced several extra-curricular clubs this year, including some outstanding leadership work with both Year 9 and 10 boys running and organising festivals for the local primary schools. They have received a certificate and £100.
● If ever you wanted proof that the Maccabiah Games is not all about sporting success then take a look at Team GB table tennis stalwart Dov Katz. A partner at top law firm Howard Kennedy, Katz recently became engaged to Perry Dayan, an Israeli lady he met last year in Israel. Katz said: "It is what the Maccabiah is about."
