BRIAN Meyer says the MJSL are prepared to dip into their own pockets to avoid another fixture pile-up next season.
The league’s bosses are considering playing at least one cup competition on 3G pitches in midweek.
It follows on from them taking emergency measures to ensure this season’s MJSL season did not extend into June.
Poor weather conditions saw numerous games postponed. With clubs struggling to field teams, a number of end-of-season matches were forfeited.
Meyer, the MJSL chairman, insists playing games on artificial pitches is the way forward.
“He said: “It cost us £1,200 to play the games on the 3G pitches. But it was worth it to ensure the season ended in time.
“Some leagues in Manchester are still going and some have been forced to abandon the remaining games. It was a difficult winter and it left us playing catch-up.
“If the money is there, then we will spend it. Playing one cup competition in midweek on 3G will free up space for the league games on a Sunday. It’s something we are seriously considering.”
Meanwhile, there are fears that newly-crowned MJSL champions Oakhill Lions may not defend their crown.
The exit of Daniel Rabonwitz has left the students searching for a new manager to take them forward.
Heaton Park Rovers, Haroldeans and Leeds Maccabi have also indicated they are struggling to raise teams on a consistent basis.
Myer said: “We’d love more teams but we’ve had no enquiries. Like this season, I hope there will be nine sides. We don’t want to lose anyone.
“I’m hopeful Oakhill will find someone to take them forward as there’s enough Jewish students in Manchester.
“It’s been a long, hard season but I’m confident everyone will be raring to go again later in the summer.
“But of course you always worry about numbers. We had 250 people, which is a staggering number, for the Shonn Trophy at Salford. It shows the interest is still there.”
