Maccabi Manchester 2nds overcame a resilient Heaton Park Rovers 3-1 in a tight affair in the MJSL Joan Collins Premier Division.
The hosts had looked comfortable after quick-fire strikes from Dan Margolis and Daniel Rubinstein, but a penalty scored by Jonathan Franks against the run of play brought the visitors back into the game.
After half time Heaton Park put pressure on the Manchester goal in desperate search of an equaliser, but the final goal of the game came though the host’s Jack Myers.
Maccabi boss Irving Modlin said: "We dominated the first half and scored two cracking goals. Heaton came back well in the second half but we finished it off."
Maccabi Manchester 3rds were also victors, coming away from Haroldeans with a narrow 1-0 victory. The scoreline tells a different story to a game in which Manchester hit the woodwork several times and were denied by what Richard Hamburger called an “outstanding performance” by the Haroldeans goalkeeper.
Moshe Hasid scored the decider with minutes to go, scrambling home after the hosts failed to clear a free kick, leaving Hamburger “very pleased” with his young side’s performance.
There were plenty of goals to be found in the game between AFC Flixton Reserves and South Manchester Sports 2nds with the hosts prevailing 8-3.
The scoreline had at one point been 3-3, but clinical finishing from the home side put a shine on the result. Man-of-the-match Sam Myers scored a hat-trick, with Daniel Warwick (2), Adam Green, Andy Shaffer and Jordan Gold also netting for the hosts. Manchester struck though Dan Rodden and Josh Mond, together with an own goal.
Leeds Maccabi 2nds were the final victors of the weekend’s action, coming from a goal behind to defeat FC Cosmos 2-1.
The hosts had gone 1-0 up through an own goal, this despite Leeds having the majority of the possession. The visitors though finally found their finishing touch, with goals from Johnny Goldstone and Colin Abrahams enough to secure the three points.
Leeds boss Alex Ullmann told JC Sport: "Cosmos were unlucky to lose the way they did, but Leeds dominated possession and the end result was justified.
"We look forward to our next game at home to Manchester Maccabi 2nds, following a defeat on penalties when we met in the Community Shield. Both clubs will be determined to take all three points home, so this may be one to watch."
