A moment of magic from Harrison Midda helped Woodford Wanderers marched four points clear after they came from a goal down to beat local rivals Redbridge B at Fairlop.
The inspirational Richie Caplin had put RJC in front with a long-range special but James Ryan and a wonder goal from Midda won it for Woodford with a superb second-half performance on a terrible pitch.
Woodford managers Jerome Marks and Daryl Kay were "conscious of our previous three results which saw us getting over ran in the midfield," so decided to change things around with skipper Adam Poole and Darryl Green starting as two holding midfielders.
The game started at a very moderate pace, with both teams not giving much away but Woodford struggled to find their feet on a sticky and heavy pitch.
The RJC B team at the majority of the possession in the first half, but Woodford looked dangerous on the counter-attack, with the front three of Paul Biller, Midda and Ryan.
RJC B made the possession finally count on the half hour mark when the dangerous CAPLIN cut inside from the left, went pass two defenders at pace and struck a ferocious shot into top right corner from 20 yards out, giving the Woodford keeper Ben Rosenthal no chance.
RJC B were on top after the goal, and looked like doubling the league, but with a minute left to go of the first half, a long ball was played in behind the RJC B right back, and Biller got in behind and put in a cross for RYAN to tuck away clinically. This was a hard blow for the RJC B boys to take.
The visitors made some changes at half-time and the second half started very evenly, with both teams trying to keep the ball. The decisive moment arrived after 60 minutes when RJC conceded a free-kick 25 yards out. MIDDA struck a stunning curling effort that flew beyond the despairing RJC keeper into the top corner.
With 20 minutes to go RJC had a clear-cut chance when David Fialka was through on goal but put his effort wide. RJC B tried to push for an equaliser, but Woodford stood strong and held on for a crucial victory.
Woodford joint-manager Daryl Kay told JC Sport: "It was a very very good win today. The title is totally in our hands and we go into next weeks game full of confidence."
RJC boss Sam Rank told JC Sport: "Overall, it was a good performance from RJC B, just missing the killer instinct in front of goal.
"A draw would've been correct result in this game and I would imagine the Woodford boys would agree with that.
"RJC wish the Woodford boys good luck on hopefully winning the title."
