There are several mouth-watering matches in store on Matchday 8 of the MGBSFL as league leaders Camden Park travel to Harmen, with Will Castle hoping my JC Manager of the Week curse doesn't end his team's excellent run, while title hopefuls Redbridge and Hendon United go head-to-head and high-flying Real Sosobad and Oakwood B lock horns in Division One. YOUR WEEKEND PREVIEW STARTS HERE:
DON'T FORGET, THE CLOCKS GO BACK AN HOUR THIS WEEKEND!
PETER MORRISON TROPHY ROUND ONE
FC TEAM B vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS B
The season has been stop-start for FC Team B but the first division outfit will be looking to put down their marker against Division Two title hopefuls Lions B in the cup on Sunday.
Team are a match for anyone in the MGBSFL on their day and their style will give the visitors a testing morning like never before.
Boss Mitch Young predicts “a very difficult cup game against an excellent young Lions side”. He told JC Sport: “I am not looking at them as a team from the division below. I see them more as Premier League standard - even at their young age they are packed with high level experience.
"We have not played for two weeks so my players are hungry to go out there and play some football.
"I know we can cause Lions a lot of trouble but we will have to be wary of their pace and skill.
"I have a near on full strength team and this is a competition I want to try and go as far as we can. It should be an exciting game."
The Lions have won three on the spin in the league and although their Anekstein hopes are over for the season, they have nothing to lose on Sunday.
Boss Samuel Marchant told JC Sport: “We learnt a lot about cup matches and playing teams in higher divisions when we faced Oakwood B in the Cyril Anekstein Cup, and that experience should definitely help us as we face another tough side away, this time in the Peter Morrison Trophy.
"We reacted well after that cup loss a few weeks back now and we feel that we might just get a result on Sunday if we play at our best and have a little bit of luck on our side.
"Our new squad is still just finding it’s feet together, and it’s a long learning process, however in the last few weeks we’ve seen phases of fantastic attacking play whilst also being solid at the back.
"We look to carry that into this week too. We’ve been anticipating this fixture for a few weeks now and we’re excited to get this season’s Peter Morrison campaign underway."
The first 20 minutes are important for Team. If they can dampen MLL’s fire, I expect their experience to take them over the line.
JC team news: Lions will be missing injured duo Dean Rosenthal (hamstring) and Daniel Mattey (groin).
Venue – Old Camdenians, Ref – Laurie Benson, KO – 10am
JC star man: Oliver Segal (Team)
DC Prediction: Team 2 Lions 1

LOS BLANCOS vs L’EQUIPE
Second division L’Equipe go in search of a famous upset when they travel to West Hendon to take on Los Blancos.
Flying high with three wins from four, the second division outfit must show no fear as they go in search of what would be a big scalp, with their hopes resting heavily on the form of striker Andy Smith who will no doubt have concocted another master plan.
L'Equipe boss Nick Stern told JC Sport: "As we said at the start of the season, our biggest priority was winning the league and I think some of our players have taken that to heart as we have a remarkably small squad this weekend.
"I think some may even have heard that Los Bloncos could not afford to pay for us to have a changing room this week which was extremely disappointed as some were worried about getting changed in public (Mark Singer!).
"However, due to the strength of our squad and the return of some key players, namely James Bell and Grant Bates, I am still very confident of the squad that I have this weekend. Their returned coupled with John Kay's flick-on ability leaves me with hope of pulling of what would be a huge cupset.
"We go into the game as massive underdogs and all the pressure will be on our opponents, but after the way we fought and battled against the Premier League champions, no team scares us. We have been on a brilliant run recently and I really hope that continues."
We’ve seen the best and worst of Blancos over the past couple of weeks but they delivered big style last time out, much to the relief of boss Jonathan Ison.
Ahead of the tie, he told JC Sport: “Our last game ended in a morale-boosting 7-0 win, and we hope to continue our winning ways this week in the PM Trophy.
"Israel and Belchak are looking solid at the back, Nick Grosse will be buzzing after his clean sheet, and with Jono Gaon back amongst the goals, we go into this week confident of progressing, but knowing that L'Equipe will give us a good run for our money."
L’Equipe have come a long way but I can't see them stopping Blancos’ strikers over the course of 90 minutes.
JC team news: L'Equipe are missing several players including Mark Smith, Andy Smith, James Mandell, and Mark Singer, but they welcome back Grant Bates, James Bell, and Scott Bennett from his honeymoon.
Venue – Montrose Park, Ref – Steve Russell, KO – 10am
JC star man: Tim Heynes (Blancos)
DC Prediction: Blancos 2 L’Equipe 1

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS C vs HMH OLD BOYS
Sunday is all about the unknown for Raiders (and me) as they take on the Old Boys of HMH.
The league is priority for NLR this season but they have a strong squad and if they can pass the HMH test, they could go on a nice little run in the competition and even set up a weekend away day up north.
NLR’s David Domb told JC Sport: “We played an HMH team at this stage of the competition last year and the boys will remember it was a real battle. Not just because they were a good side, but we were in a bad run of form.
"Now one defeat from five games, the boys have a right to feel a sense of confidence but well approach the game with the right amount of caution."
JC team news: NLR’s Nick Haringman is back following a leg injury, while keeper Grant Waissel also returns having missed the draw with Bilbaum.
Venue – The Ark, Ref – Darryl Colmans, KO – 9.45am
JC star man: Nick Haringman (Raiders)

FAITHFOLD A vs MACCABI LONDON LIONS A
Faithfold will look to break their league duck when they welcome the Lions to the Hive.
Manager Dan Beresford might have to adopt a Kevin Keegan-style approach – if you score four, we’ll score five – as they have conceded 24 goals in just four league games.
The Greens were ultimately well beaten by Oakwood last week but I can see this being a little closer.
The Lions are still in a transition stage but their fans will arrive hopeful of witnessing a second away win with the Gold brothers key to the outcome.

HARMEN vs CAMDEN PARK
Camden Park have been one of the surprise packages of the season thus far and I can see their match against a rapidly improving Harmen team being a real humdinger.
The Camden boys cleaned up last week after putting FC Team to the sword, with Rob Hershkorn and Will Castle cleaning up with the respective JC Player and Manager of the Week awards.
But Castle knows that will all count for nothing this weekend against a Harmen team with a point to prove.
Castle told JC Sport: “Sunday will be probably be our biggest test yet against a Harmen side who have recently hit form.
“We've noticed they've adapted their playing style to be more aggressive than in the past and we have been preparing for that.
“Obviously there's a bit a of a friendly family rivalry given my cousin, Sam, plays for them but that won't matter come kick-off and the only thing I will be interested in is Camden walking away with the three points.
“We've been taking each game as it comes and yes we've been on a good run but we aren't getting carried away and we know it will be extremely tough on Sunday.”
Harmen had a field day against Blizzard last week, with Sam Castle, Elliott Stern, James Gershfield, Dan Green and Adam Arnold filling their boots.
Ahead of Sunday’s crunch clash, Harmen boss Joel Alterman told JC Sport: “After a slow start to the season, the team is now playing some great football and are now enjoying the rewards.
“Last week’s victory against Blizzard Storm was not the toughest of tests, however this week we are expecting one of our hardest games of the season against a Camden team on a serious winning streak.
“We know some of their players well and will be looking to exploit their weak links. Harmen lost their keeper Harry Fine to Camden this week and we will be looking to give him a horrible return to Hadley, this just adds to the friendly family competition come Sunday morning!”
The banter has already started on Facebook, with top-scorer Gershfield warning Camden: “I’m coming to get you!”
JC team news: Harmen are at full strength with the exception of Jake Gotlieb and Elliott Stern who miss out through suspension.
Steven Murad is still away for Camden so new boy Harry Fine will be making his debut. Castle added: “Competition is very high at Camden at the moment and I have a big squad to choose from this week.”

JC star man: Dan Green (Harmen)
DC Prediction: Harmen 2 Camden 1

NORTH LONDON RAIDERS A vs FC TEAM A
If results go their way, Raiders could finish the weekend at the summit.
They finally have all their big guns back and will look to follow up last week’s impressive victory at Lions with another against an out-of-sorts FC Team.
Alex Bloch and Oscar Wagner guided them past Wagner, with boss Rob Richman waxing lyrical about the performance of 18-year-old Wagner.
I expect Richman to remind his squad that Team were the last side to beat L’Orange and that should be enough to light the touchpaper.
He told JC Sport: “Looking back on our start to the season, I can’t really have many complaints. Our new players have bedded in nicely and look like they’ve been playing with us some time and our results have been spot on to date.
“I fully believe that our performances will continue to improve as players get back their match sharpness and some of those injured like Matt Stock, Adam Joselyn and Jonny Kaye return in the next few weeks.
“This week we face another tough test against a talented and strong FC Team side. It will need another complete team display just like last week, but I am confident we have the personnel to cause FC Team problems and get a result.
“Last week we welcomed Ricky Engleman back for his first start of the season and this week see’s Liron Mannie and Josh Pistol return. As I said last week we are going to have to make full use of the squad over the coming weeks and it’s really great to be able to call on two players who performed so well for us last season this week.”
FC Team fans will recall their famous win over the champions last season. Manager Ben Gilbey is considering getting his players together on Saturday night to watch highlights of that game.
Things have not gone to plan for Team thus far this season. I expected them to kick on but they have yet to find their rhythm and it could be a good time for Raiders to play them.
JC team news: Jordan Marks returns after missing out last weekend, but Nick Lewis “who has made such a big impact in his first few games” is absent this week. Alex Bloch is away but both Josh Pistol and Liron Mannie will make their first appearances of the season.
Venue – Rowley Lane 3G, Ref – Martin De La Fuente, KO - 10am

DC Prediction: Raiders 2 Team 0

OAKWOOD A vs BLIZZARD STORM
Dan Kristall insists Oakwood will take nothing for granted when his team host Blizzard Storm on Sunday.
They were simply irresistible at Faithfold last week when Guy Helman, Josh Rose, Brad Wine and Anthony Kintish inspired them to their third league win in four matches.
With the exception of the Hendon game, they have been clinical in the final third and rock solid at the back. They just don’t concede cheap goals and it will take a very good team to beat them right now.
Ahead of kick-off, Kristall told JC Sport: “This is another big game for us and we take nothing for granted.
"We beat Blizzard the other week and performed superbly that day with the exception of a 10-minute blip.
"As their gaffer said, they were missing lots of players for that match and after last week’s hammering to Harmen, they’ll be looking to bounce back.
"We take nothing for granted but we’re aiming to keep up our excellent start to the season."
Blizzard have had a poor start and Sunday’s 8-1 defeat against Harmen has done little to lift the gloom.
Blizzard have yet to keep a clean sheet and will need to pull out all the stops against a rampant Oakwood team.
Manager Simon Linden told JC Sport: Last week was a tough game. We need to bounce back against a strong Oakwood team.
"It's important that we get our season back on track. Regarding your prediction, I don't trust it!"
On paper this one looks like a home banker and I think it will pan out much the same way on grass.
JC team news: Oakwood have almost a full squad to choose from.
Venue – Nicholas Breakspear, Ref – Martin Lavender
JC star man: Anthony Kintish (Oakwood)
DC Prediction: Oakwood 3 Blizzard 0

REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE A vs HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB A
Jon Jacobs and David Garbacz were involved in an infamous spat last season. Thankfully they kissed and made up in the most recent meeting and I expect football to be the winner at Fairlop on Sunday.
The teams have enjoyed some epic battles in recent years and I expect another to unfold this weekend between two teams packed with quality.
Having had a couple of weeks to rest a groin niggle, the experienced Steve Summers returns to lead the line for Redbridge meaning that the pacy Dan Garfinkle is likely to play on the right. It also wouldn’t surprise me if the Hakimi brothers are thrown in from the start as the midfield battleground will be key.
Ahead of kick-off, RJC boss Jon Jacobs told JC Sport: “We totally respect the achievements of Hendon over the last few years and they are the benchmark that other teams need to get to if they want to be successful.
"I think Sunday will be a great test of how far we have come."
Hendon suffered their heaviest defeat in recent memory in the the Sunday FA Challenge Cup. They couldn’t have asked for a tougher test than New Salamis in the first round but it would be fair to say their opponents made mincemeat of them in the last 20 minutes of a 6-0 demolition.
But manager David Garbacz has assured me his troops are ready to go again.
“We have dusted ourselves down from the Challenge Cup defeat last week with the knowledge that it is extremely difficult to overcome big injuries and still expect to win games against quality opposition,” Garbacz told JC Sport.
“Whilst not putting Redbridge in the same bracket as our opponents from last week, we know that they are one of the top challengers for the title along with us, Raiders and possibly a couple of others so whatever happens we will be far better prepared for a game against a top team where our number one target this year is to win the league.
“Thankfully the injury list has eased a bit although a few important players do still require late fitness tests but whatever the outcome on Sunday that will not be used as an excuse.
“We are looking forward as ever to our proper East End welcome where I’m sure we’ll have a nice Kiddush provided for us on arrival at the Fairlop changing rooms and no doubt my old mate big John will be as keen as ever to turn us over.
“But we know the importance of this match and we will be extremely focused to put on a good professional performance and ultimately come away with a big win.”
Hendon don’t lose many games in Jewish football, but they will need to pull out all the stops and produce a gritty backs-to-the-wall performance against a Redbridge team that will be bang up for it.
JC team news: Redbridge welcome back Steve Summers from injury and, for the first time in Redbridge history, they are ready to unleash the triple Sollosi threat of Ben, Sam and Nathan. Scott Oldstein misses out due to university commitments.
Ari Last and Alex Rosenthal are definitely out for Hendon. Greg Corin Ari Nevies and Dovi Fehler are all doubtful. Avi Korman returns.

DC Prediction: Redbridge 1 Hendon 1

TOP-SCORERS

8 - Reiss Mogilner (Brady Maccabi)
BRADY MACCABI vs NORTH LONDON RAIDERS B
It’s back to the league for the Brady bunch as they look to extend their unbeaten record to five matches.
Reiss Mogilner hopes that last week’s hat-trick in the abandoned cup tie against Faithfold is not chalked off. He remains one of the hottest properties around in the MGBSFL at the minute and Raiders will need to be wary of his goal threat.
Manager Josh Dagul knows his Brady team must start producing some clean sheets as they look to kick on in the run up to Chanukah.
Raiders don’t quite seem themselves this season, but they still possess some dangerous players and Brady will need to be on top of their game to see them off.
JC team news: Ben Hildebrand is a long-term absentee for Brady after dislocating his knee against Faithfold.
Venue – Rowley Lane, Ref – Callum Foster
JC star man: Reiss Mogilner (Brady)
DC Prediction: Brady 2 Raiders 1

REAL SOSOBAD vs OAKWOOD B
Derbies apart, Sosobad face their first real test of the season when they host third-placed Oakwood.
It was important Dan Shafron’s men hit the ground running in the division and they have done just that, and some.
Victories over Faithfold, SPEC FC and Redbridge have left them flying high. Now they are there to be shot at.
Ahead of the Oakwood game, Shafron told JC Sport: “This is the beginning of a defining few weeks for us. Both teams have had very good starts to the season and it is up to us to continue that run this weekend.
“We’ve trained well and have worked on strategy and the best approach to win this game.
“We know they have some very good players including an in-form striker who has been scoring plenty of goals, but so do we and we will ensure we take the game to them.
“We will not sit back and let Oakwood attack us. It is important that we continue creating goal scoring opportunities and play with plenty of positivity and intensity.”
Jacob Richler-Kleiman has been the star man for Oakwood thus far, but they are strong all over the park and will travel to east London with bags of confidence following a series of strong results in league and cup.
Boss Jason Stein told JC Sport: “Afternoon, DC. Please do come in. I'm just finishing a bit of a spring clean and throwing the rest of Ian's things out. I found some Zloty from his ill-fated Intertoto Cup tie against Maccabi Poznan, a few old team sheets with darts stuck in them and a Ric Blank voodoo doll which I better be careful with.
"Real Sosobad this week and an emotional occasion personally. I took charge of my very first Oakwood game - a friendly - against them in August 2013 and we drew 1-1. It was a lovely day and I'll never forget the reception I received from the nine away supporters at the Anoeta Stadium.
“I always recall the one quaint gent - Bernard I think his name was - waving two fingers up at me which I think was an acknowledgement of the two goals scored in the game. Bernard is no longer with us, but his support meant a lot.
"Hopefully a few more make the journey to the Basque Country of Essex this week for our top of the table clash.
"I'm expecting a hard game against a side I know have improved over the summer. Dan Shafron is a good lad who works hard for his club and the league needs more managers like him in order to avoid more teams dropping out.
“That being said, I'm certain we will be the strongest side they've faced this season. Like us, they're unbeaten and through in two cups, but a glance through both fixture lists shows we've had the tougher start.
"We're strong this week and I'm looking forward to Sunday."
This will come down to who wins their individual and collective battles. It’s one not to miss.
JC team news: Dan Geey returns in central midfield and Bobby Abrams will make his second appearance since rejoining Oaks. Dan Ash is still a week or two away from returning.
Venue – 7 Kings High School, Ref – Paul Dobkin, KO – 10am
JC star man: Dave Eden (Oakwood)
DC Prediction: Sosobad 2 Oakwood 2

SPEC FC vs REDBRIDGE JEWISH CARE B
Having finally got the proverbial monkey off their back, SPEC FC will be confident of recording back-to-back wins.
Centre back Brad Fox was their star man last week. He had a “very solid game and great distribution too” in a 3-0 win over FC Team C. More of the same is order of the day.
Boss Ricky Lawrence told JC Sport: "After winning our first game of the season we now have to get our first points.
"Sunday’s a must-win game for us and though we're missing a few, we're confident we can put in a good performance and hopefully get the three points we need."
Redbridge are also a work in progress. They enjoyed a good result last week and will be confident of climbing the table.
RJC's Sam Rank told JC Sport: "After winning our first league game of the season, the RJC B boys are in high spirit. We dominated the game from minute 1 to minute 90 and deserved the three points.
"The chances created last week were once again in the high teens. With a good structured training completed on Tuesday the boys hope to convert more of these chances.
"SPEC FC are a very useful team, and have lot of good players. However, after last week win, we feel we can push on, and get more victories, and be higher up the table were we belong."
Josh Orgel is proving a genuine goal threat but SPEC FC will know that as they go in search of their first league win.
JC team news: Richie Caplin is speedily recovering from his ankle injury, however he will not make the RJC squad for Sunday. Brad Gayer is available for his monthly match for the club. RJC are at full strength.
Venue – Hertswood, Ref – Richard Jay, KO – 10.15am
JC star man: Josh Hershman (SPEC FC)
DC Prediction: SPEC 2 Redbridge 1

WOODFORD WANDERERS vs FAITHFOLD B
Going out of the cup may not necessarily be the worst thing for Woodford Wanderers.
They produced a strong performance in Manchester last week and were desperately unlucky not to progress in a match decided by penalties.
Joint-manager Jerome Marks told me it’s all systems go for Sunday. “Despite getting knocked out of the Peter Morrison last week, confidence and belief in the camp is high, and we are happy with the hunger the boys are showing at the moment,” he told JC Sport.
“New signing Adam Shafron is in contention to make his debut, following his move from Redbridge. Although he can play in a couple of positions, we think he can potentially create a solid partnership at the centre of defence with skipper Adam Poole.
“It’s been a bit of a mixed bag for us so far in the league, but the feeling from the management is that this could be the week where things really start to click into gear.”
Faithfold have scored in every game this season, but they have also conceded in every game this season. I expect them to huff and puff but Woodford should have too much on the day.
JC team news: For the first time in a while, Woodford have a couple of major selection headaches, due to some excellent performances from last week, and the fact that they are able to call upon 14 strong players. Elliott Gold, David Green and James Ryan all return to the squad after their absence in Leeds.
Venue – Fairlop, Ref – David Lazarus, KO – 10am

BOCA JEWNIORS vs FC TEAM C
Boca Jewniors gave their fans some much-needed cheer with victory in the cup last week.
Anton Nyman registered his first goal of the season but it was the defence that showed great resilience to lay the foundations for the win.
Nyman knows the team's league form has to improve and he's hoping for a repeat performance on Sunday.
He told JC Sport: "With the extra hour of sleep on offer for Sunday, we have pretty much a full complement of a squad to choose from this week.
"It's a nice selection dilemma for the manager to have, especially after the performance that was delivered in the cup last weekend.
"Hopefully we can kick on with confidence riding high in the camp, deliver at the same levels as last week and get back to back wins recorded for the first time in two years.
"Despite the optimism there, this is anything but an easy game and we need to be at our best and nothing less to take our share of the spoils."
FC Team have yet to find any rhythm or momentum this season, but there is a feeling of optimism ahead of the trip to Boca.
David Gordon told JC Sport: “With games against Lions and Scrabble coming up in the next two weeks, we know that Sunday’s game is a must win.”
I'm expecting an open and entertaining affair and can see both teams coming away with something to show for their efforts.
JC team news: Player-manager Mike Myers is out for FC Team with a shoulder injury. Jamie Cooper has a hamstring tear that has kept him out since pre-season and still hasn’t healed out while joint-top scorer Josh Cooper is unavailable. Goalkeeper David Gordon waiting until Friday afternoon to get the all clear after breaking his nose five weeks ago.

TEMPLE FORTUNE vs REAL HENDON
Temple Fortune have the worst defensive record in the MGBSFL right now and manager Jonathan Cohen knows it's important they address those frailties, starting on Sunday.
The early signs looked promising when they beat Catford on Matchday One, but it has been one heavy defeat after another thereafter. A back-to-basics approach will be order of the day against Real.
The Hendon strikers will be licking their licks at the prospect of taking on Fortune, with Rafi Noe, Gav Noe, Chaim Gothold and Gilad Kestenbaum ready to fill their boots.
Real themselves suffered a heavy defeat last time out, but I think they will have too much quality in the final third on Sunday and come away with the points.
Venue – Roger Bannister, Ref – Stuart Ansher
JC star man: Gilad Kestenbaum (Real)
DC Prediction: Fortune 1 Real 4

ATHLETIC BILBAUM vs HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB B
Market Road plays host to one of the games of the weekend as in-form Bilbaum take on table-toppers Hendon.
The Baums will be looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to three, but the only way they will win is if they dominate the midfield areas and get numbers behind the ball when defending.
Hendon are scoring from all areas this season and manager Adam Glekin has them playing with freedom and on the front foot.
This will be Hendon's biggest test since the Scrabble game but I expect them to pass it, just.
Venue – Market Road, Ref – Ted Littner
JC star man: Gab Saul (Hendon)
DC Prediction: Bilbaum 2 Hendon 3
