Amy Meyer won bronze on Day One at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Having passed a late weigh-in to confirm her participation in the under-48 division on Wednesday, the Australian judoka claimed third place alongside compatriot Chloe Rayner.
Things did not start well for Meyer who was beaten by losing finalist Shushila Likmabam. But she recovered well to beat Abigail Chindele in the Repechage.
Meyer almost lost in the dying seconds after Okey pulled off what seemed like a winning throw and a point was added to the scoreboard before being quickly removed. She was awarded bronze because she only committed two penalties to Barbados judoka Onoh-Obasi Okey's three.
Competing at the Games for the first time, Meyer, 22, said it is an "honour" and "dream come true" to be representing Australia in Glasgow.
Meyer won bronze at the Oceania Games earlier this year and she hopes to compete at the Olympics in Rio in 2016.
"I've put everything on hold and have to make judo my number one priority this year," said Meyer who graduated from Sydney University with a degree in exercise sport science last year.
"The build up to the Games have been really hard,” she said. "I've been juggling work and training, meaning there’s not much time for anything else."
