Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Champions League campaign got off to a disastrous start as they were ultimately outclassed by Group B favourites Chelsea, going down 4-0 on a night to forget at Stamford Bridge.

The Israeli champions were on the back foot from the first whistle, although they were given an early reprieve when Player of the Year Eden Hazard smashed a penalty over the bar goalkeeper Pedrag Rajkovic clipped Willian in the penalty area.

But they were level for only 15 minutes as Willian’s curling free-kick evaded a cluster of players in the box before finding its way past Rajkovic from 30 yards.
