The Maccabi Masters League got into its stride with a Division 1 battle between the reigning double winners, Brady A, and new boys, Scrabble, and it was the old masters who edged the win, thanks to goals from Nick Collins and Scott Ansher (pen). Jonny Summerfield scored for Scrabble.

Division Two kicked off with Brady B completing a good day for the club with a 2-1 win over Hendon, and last season’s bottom two teams both recording wins.

Brady took the lead from a Malcolm Hershman penalty after Roger Kay was brought down, and guest Phil Silver made it two just before the break after a nice exchange of passes with Pete Sugarman. Mike Lee scored an own goal with 10 minutes remaining to give Hendon real hope, and Brady secured the points only after player-manager David Jacobs made a last ditch tackle to keep the Harriers from equalising, and Larry Radiven had to pull off a last minute save.

Ashlodge – who only scored 16 goals in the whole of last season’s league campaign – put five past Temple Fortune in their opening fixture, courtesy of Jeff Isaacs (2), Geoff Green (2) and Jonny Lauffer. Stephen Brower netted Fortune’s consolation.
