The Jewish New Year will bring about some significant changes for Maccabi GB as the Community’s largest sports provider has announced that Lord Jonathan Kestenbaum will become an honorary Life President.
The appointment was made at the recent AGM and comes as Stanley Cohen OBE steps down as President after 13 years.
Mr Cohen will become a Maccabi GB Life President after vacating his position. He will be joined by Lord Kestenbaum – who will be leading Team Maccabi GB at the European Maccabi Games 2015 in Berlin as Delegation President – as the organisation’s joint-Life President as of immediate effect.
In addition, it has been announced that Maccabi GB’s Chairman, Michael Ziff, will end his tenure in September 2015 and will then become the organisation’s President. His successor has been announced as David Pinnick, Maccabi GB’s current joint-Vice Chairman. David has recently been voted in as Chair-elect and will begin his role after Rosh Hashanah next year. Current joint-Vice Chairman, Daniel Collins, will continue in his position.
Other changes to the charity will see Michael Stock and Gary Phillips step down from the Maccabi GB Board. Earlier this year it was announced that Victor Kevehazi joined the Board.
Speaking about Stanley Cohen’s contribution to Maccabi GB and the changes to the organisation’s Board, Chairman, Michael Ziff, said: "Few have done so much over many years as Stanley Cohen and [his wife] Joy to Maccabi GB. Stanley has been a wonderful President and his support both financially and actively for our organisation has known no bounds. We cannot thank him enough and wish him all the happiness as he takes up his new role."
He continued: "September 2015 will mark the end of my time as Chairman of Maccabi GB. It has been a great honour for me to have been invited by the Board to take up the role of President and it is a role I will be delighted to fulfil, supporting the organisation through fundraising and finding new partners.
"My successor, David Pinnick has been involved in the Maccabi movement for many years - leading our major International Programmes and developing our governance – and I truly believe he will make an excellent successor."
