I bumped into Brady Maccabi manager Joel Nathan in the gym the other day and he was quick to shrug off the departure of leading striker Reiss Mogilner.
August 21, 2018 09:15Mogilner has featured at the top of the scoring charts for the past few seasons and his move to Rowley Lane stablemates Maccabi London Lions is a major coup for Sam Marchant’s men.
It’s the equivalent of Liverpool losing Mohammed Salah, Manchester City losing Kevin De Bruyne, Spurs losing Harry Kane or Manchester United losing, er, I suppose, David De Gea.
But the Brady boss was giving little away when I asked about a possible replacement. He replied: “Don’t you worry about that!”
My money would be Brady making a move for Bayern Mincha hot-shot and Golden Boot winner Adam Ellis, who would take to life in the Premier Division like a duck to water.
Speaking of which, with record temperatures hitting parts of the UK, pre-season training can’t be much fun for any footballers up and down the land in preparation for the new season.
Regular water breaks are essential to keep the players hydrated and Temple Fortune manager Simon Linden raised a toast to his team after they secured a 3-2 win over Victoria Park of the Barnet Sunday League.
Fortune’s 17-man squad featured several newcomers who were all looking to make an impression in a game where strikes from Daniel Vandemolen, David Rajber and Gab Stone earned Fortune victory.
Linden said: “It was an encouraging performance and a very good start to pre-season, despite the heat and lots of changes to the side. It was great to be back out there.”
* MGBSFL referee Neal Cohen has tipped North London Galaxy for big things this season after officiating their pre-season friendly against Hertswood Vale. Cohen, who made use of the new sin-bin law for dissenting players, said: “Galaxy will take some beating.”
Another friendly saw defending MGBSFL champions Hendon United beat Los Camden 6-3. Player of the Year Zac Lewis scored twice, as did trialist Daniel Garfinkle – the striker who inspired Fairlop FC to the Division Two title last season. Greg Corin and Mordy Weiler sealed the win.
* Congratulations to Jared Rand, who has been selected for the England under-19 squad competing at the Four Nations futsal tournament in France. Rand, who plays for Reading Escolla FC, will be looking to impress in the matches against France, Spain and Montenegro.
