LMV produced an outstanding all-round display on Sunday to record their first league victory of the season.
Four wickets from Steven Allweis enabled the hosts to bowl out St John's Wood for just 175, and then led by Danny Caro's 92, LMV triumphed by seven wickets with almost five overs to spare.
Electing to bowl first on a typically slow Rowley Lane pitch, LMV kept it tight in the opening exchanges of this Chess Valley League Division Three, with Allweis and Jonti Aremband restricting the visitors' scoring opportunities.
A smart piece of work in the field from Alex Haffner in the second over led to a run-out, the first of three in the innings, and captain Neil Lederman then struck with his first ball to pile on the pressure.
St John's Wood staged a recovery of sorts with a partnership of more than 100, but their scoring rate remained steady and LMV were always in control of proceedings.
Returning at the death, Allweis showcased his masterful control of yorkers and cunning slower balls, demolishing a series of batsmen to record excellent figures of 4-16 from 10 overs.
In response, Caro and Ben Kohler provided a solid start, the former unfurling a series of glorious lofted drives in addition to his now customary clip off the hip.
Kohler edged to slip for 13, but Jonny Gould, fresh off his maiden century last week, joined forces with Caro and the pair eased through the middle overs.
With the weather on the verge of disrupting the chase, LMV knew they needed to put their foot on the pedal and despite the loss of Gould, they accelerated towards the target.
Caro showcased his full repertoire of shots and advanced into the 90s before being adjudged LBW with the finish line in sight, but Adam Brand blazed a quickfire unbeaten 41 and hit the winnings runs to take LMV to a convincing victory.
