LONDON LIONS 3 BUSHEY 0
Shorn of a number of regular players, Lions used their full squad and blooded some youngsters on the bench as Bushey came looking for an upset.
With the visitors employing some physical tactics to try and unsettle Lions, the home team needed to be strong – and eventually took the lead on 15 minutes as good work between Austin Lipman and James Gershfield set up Max Kyte to open the scoring from close range.
Lions doubled their lead before the break, with Kyte again netting – this time a spectacular effort from 25 yards to give the hosts a cushion.
Bushey still threatened as Lions were below their best – individually and as a team – but goalkeeper Jake Lewis was comfortable in everything he did and protected his clean sheet.
The game was wrapped up when James Gershfield scored his usual goal – Kyte this time turning provider as Gershfield rounded the goalkeeper before finishing.
Lions had time to give two 16-year-olds their debuts with Josh Burns and Sam Hamerton helping see out the win.
Manager Andy Landesberg commented: "We were not at our strongest, and not at our best, but showed we can battle as well today and win in a different way.
"Despite being one win from the title, I have reminded the boys we haven't won anything yet.
"We have put ourselves in a superb position, but now it's about focusing on each game and getting the job done."
