Lions register perfect 10

Having rested a number of players on Saturday, a rejuvenated Andy Glynne, Daniel Stanton and Michael Sacks were back in the thick of things for the Lions. Aron Barnes returned to the starting 11 with Josh Kennet back from holiday on the bench, Guy Morris was given the night off.

It wasn’t the most memorable night in Lions season so far but they always looked in control of a game where at times they were there own worst enemies.

The Lions made a reasonable start, popping the ball around with an air of authority. Kentish Town shaped up well and matched their visitors competitive edge.

The first goal arrived 15 minutes in thanks to Bolle’s quick thinking and thunderous finish. The front man is in great form currently and has been a terrific addition to the Lions squad. Daren Bern cut in from the right releasing the ball to Bolle who with his back to goal swivelled and lashed the ball home.

Lions doubled that lead from the penalty spot several minutes later. Guy Helman went on one of his famous mazy dribbles and bursting into the box was hacked down leaving the referee no option but to award a spot-kick. Glynne placed the ball down and competently slotted the penalty away.

The game, and in particular Lions, became a little untidy. This lapse in concentration was punished by the home side as Lions who had four opportunities to deal with the danger paid the price for not clearing their lines as Sacks in a last-ditch effort to win the ball in the box was late, and the referee rightly awarded another penalty. However, Matt Davis in the Lions goal was equal to the penalty taker and he made a great save down to his left to preserve his side's two-goal advantage.

It was clear that Lions had to approach the second half with a little more care, especially when in possession. The visitors were forced into a change at the break with Kennet replacing Barnes, who had to come off due to a toe injury he picked up dancing to Night Fever at a recent wedding.

Lions stepped up a gear in the second half which allowed Bolle to complete a well deserved hat-trick. His second of the game and Lions third was a tidy finish just outside the box. Bolle then grabbed a third with arguably goal of the game spanking home a beauty from 25 yards.

Kentish Town did manage a consolation goal towards the end with a superb effort from 30 yards but the most important aspect was another three points in the bag.

Lions coach Steve Grenfell said: "The result was the most important thing at the end of the day. Tonight wasn’t our best or worst performance. It was somewhere in between.

"The lads must continue to remember to never get bored of doing the simple things."

Lions manager Tony Gold added: "This is the best-ever start to a season by any Lions team. As long as the players continue to work hard and believe and trust in one another, then there is no reason whatsoever why they can’t continue this fantastic run."
