Scott Leslie was the hero of the hour as London Maccabi Lions under-10 White claimed an unprecedented treble in the Watford Friendly League.
Having already won the league and cup double, the Lions edged home on penalties in the Challenge Cup final after a titanic battle against Belmont Spartans, with Leslie saving three spot-kicks in the shoot-out.
Leslie made what manager Nigel Burns described as “at least eight incredible saves” in open play, and a late strike from Jason Burns kept their dream alive.
Joe Abrahams, Oliver White and Dylan Phillips kept their cool to convert and send Lions into dreamland.
"To be honest, the better team lost,” said Burns, “but we never know when we are beaten and never give up.
Belmont hit the woodwork at least five times, but we stood firm and Jason's stunning goal with just minutes to go was fit to win any game.
"The pitch invasion at the end, with crying parents, and grandparents and siblings will live long in the memory.
"All the boys deserve huge credit for what they have achieved not just this season but last season at under-nine level, when we won the double."
Burns, who is assisted by Joel Phillips, paid tribute to his players for a memorable campaign. "We're so proud," he said. "It's been a long, hard season and we still have our final league match next Sunday, but this is just reward for all their hard work at training as well - they are a special bunch of boys, with a huge amount of talent but the most important thing is that they all have fun and they play with a smile on their face.
"Next season will be another challenge when we go to nine-a-side, but we are looking forward to it already.”
