Lenchner makes his point, but it's not enough for the Lions

Lions’ brave bid to add the league title to their County Cup triumph fell agonisingly short as a 2-2 draw with rivals Gaston in the end served neither side well, both likely to finish a point behind Winchmore Hill who will take the title with victory next week over bottom club Greenford.

GARSTON VETS LEAGUE
MACCABI LONDON LIONS 2 GARSTON 2

Lions’ brave bid to add the league title to their County Cup triumph fell agonisingly short as a 2-2 draw with rivals Gaston in the end served neither side well, both likely to finish a point behind Winchmore Hill who will take the title with victory next week over bottom club Greenford.

Both teams knew only a win would do, so the match was, as expected, played at a high tempo and a great credit to the league.

Lions were undoubtedly on top – a fine MAx Radford cross was met on the run by Tony Gold but his header flew over before Saul Conway attempted an awkward volley when perhaps a header would have been the better choice. Gold again had a headed chance, but the attempted pull back was cut out by the keeper, Craig Pearl and Dan Piler both had fizzing efforts narrowly off target.
